Sean Spicer Now Says He Regrets Criticizing Reports Showing Trump’s Inauguration Crowd Size Was Smaller Than Obama’s

‘Of Course I Do, Absolutely’ Spicer Now Says, Sans an Actual Apology or Admission of Guilt

Almost eight months to the day, Sean Spicer now says he regrets criticizing news reports that accurately showed President Donald Trump’s inauguration crowd was significantly smaller than that of President Barack Obama. The former White House press secretary literally as his first act berated reporters for correctly reporting far fewer people turned out to see Trump being sworn in to office delivering his inaugural address than did for Obama.

“In an interview on Monday morning, Mr. Spicer said he now regrets one of his most infamous moments as press secretary: His decision to charge into the White House briefing room in January and criticize accurate news reports that Barack Obama’s inauguration crowd was bigger than President Donald J. Trump’s,” The New York Times just reported.

“Of course I do, absolutely,” Spicer told the Times.

To be clear, however, The New York Times does not say that Spicer apologized for lying about the size of Trump’s crowd.

“This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe,” Spicer falsely said January 21.

That was not accurate.

Spicer appeared on stage at the Emmy Awards Sunday night, in what many are angrily saying was an attempt to rebrand himself and cleanse his image, despite having spent seven months or more lying for President Trump. He has never acknowledged lying, and has never formally apologized to the American people or to the press for his behavior or for how he treated them.
