‘We Cannot be Distracted’: San Juan Mayor Responds to Trump’s Attacks by Focusing on Puerto Ricans
‘This is the Time to Show our True Colors’
San Juan Mayor Carmen YulÃn Cruz, the face of recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, seemingly responded to Donald Trump’s attack on her leadership and the citizens of the Puerto Rico early Saturday.
From the safety and comfort of his golf course, again, the president attacked the “poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers help.â€
He insisted Puerto Ricans are lazy, “wanting everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort.â€
Now, Mayor Carmen YulÃn Cruz has responded.
“The goal is one: saving lives,†she wrote. “This is the time to show our ‘true colors.’ We cannot be distracted by anything else.â€

As NCRM has reported, the federal government’s response to the devastation in Puerto Rico has been abysmal. Donald Trump has focused on the NFL, infantile excuses, money and by putting the American territory’s debt above human lives.
Some responses, via Twitter:
Carmen YulÃn Cruz is a leader; Donald Trump is a despicable charlatan. Puerto Rico deserves our support, not abuse from the President.

Her name is Carmen YulÃn Cruz, and she has more integrity than you and your entire cabinet combined. pic.twitter.com/Cygwb7PIUt

The Mayor of San Juan LITERALLY BEGGED her president yesterday to send help. So he travelled to his golf course & called her a nasty woman. pic.twitter.com/SCIMhcDZGN

“Such poor leadership†he tweets at victims of biblical disaster while watching television at (one of) his golf course(s). https://t.co/mDBr8Ea8A2

Imagine that, he lashes out at people with no running water, electricity, hot food or housing from a golf course.

You are a strong woman. That’s Trump’s problem. He doesn’t like strong women.

My heart goes out to you and everyone else in PR. I’ve seen you working since day 1 and you are a true inspiration. We are with you.
