Samantha Bee Has Figured Out How Donald Trump ‘Disrespects’ the American Flag (NFL Players Do Not)

There’s No Law That Says Players Should Not or Cannot Silently Protest by Kneeling

Samantha Bee posted a tweet Monday accusing President Donald Trump of disrespecting the American flag – something he wrongly has been accusing NFL players who “take a knee” to protest racial inequality, oppression, and killings of Black people by police officers of doing. 

There’s no law that says players should not or cannot silently protest by kneeling rather than standing for the National Anthem. Many, many players on Sunday, after Trump began his attacks on NFL players Friday night by calling Colin Kaepernick a “son of a b*tch,” decided to take a knee, or not appear on the field at all during the National Anthem.

But there is a law, 4 U.S. Code § 8, titled “Respect for flag,” that bans disrespecting the American flag by using it in certain ways.

“The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery,” the code reads. “The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever,” it adds.
