REPORT: Special Counsel Now Targeting Trump’s Behavior in the White House
Firings of Flynn and Comey, and Russians in Oval Office Among Turmp’s Actions Being Scrutinized
Special Counsel Robert Mueller is now targeting President Donald Trump’s behavior while in the White House, including the firings of his National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and FBI Director James Comey, according to a report in The New York Times Wednesday afternoon.Â
Mueller, who was hired to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and any possible links or ties to the Trump campaign, is now clearly investigating President Trump’s actions post-election. His office has requested documents from the White House related to those two firings.Â

But Mueller’s investigation is now also focused on the meeting in May Trump held in the Oval Office with top Russian officials, including Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. That meeting was hidden from reporters, but leaked by the Russian media. During the meeting, Trump expressed to the Russians his firing of Jim Comey had relieved “great pressure” that was on him.
The Times adds that the Special Counsel is also interested in documents that would reveal “how the White House responded to questions from The Times about a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower. That meeting was set up by Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, to get derogatory information from Russians about Hillary Clinton.”
Although the Times does not discuss obstruction of justice, it appears Mueller may be looking into it.
