Anthony Weiner Sentenced to Jail for Sending Obscene Material to Underaged Girl

21 Months

Anthony Weiner is headed to jail for 21 months. The former seven-term Democratic U.S. Congressman from New York, who resigned in 2011 after lying about posting to Twitter a sexually explicit photo of himself, on Monday was sentenced in a separate sexting incident, this time with a 15-year old minor. He pled guilty in May to transferring obscene material to a minor. He reportedly will have to register as a sex offender and cannot appeal, as part of his plea deal.

“Transmitting obscenity to a minor to induce her to engage in sexually explicit conduct by video chat and photo — is far from mere ‘sexting,'” prosecutors told the judge.

Bloomberg reports Weiner told the judge, “the crime I committed is my rock bottom.”

Weiner could have faced a decade behind bars. The plea deal allowed for 21-27 months. Weiner was sentenced to the least amount of time given the federal parameters.
