‘Nothing to Do With Race’: Trump Continues His Attack on NFL Players in Early AM Rant

‘The Issue of Kneeling Has Nothing to Do With Race. It Is About Respect for Our Country, Flag and National Anthem,’ Claims President

In an early Monday morning Twitter rant President Donald Trump continued to stir the pot of his attack on NFL players and those who support their silent protest against racism, racial oppression and inequality, and police brutality and killings of Black people.

“So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans. They won’t put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag – they said it loud and clear!” Trump began, at 7:25 AM.

“Many people booed the players who kneeled yesterday (which was a small percentage of total). These are fans who demand respect for our Flag!” Trump continued. He’s inaccurate at best. Several teams playing in Sunday’s nine NFL games opted to not appear on the field at all for the National Anthem, especially after Trump called on the NFL to fire players who took a knee in protest. Other players stood but locked arms in protest and as a show of unity with those who are protesting.

“The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this!” Trump added.

Of course, Trump is dead wrong here. He is more concerned about a fake show of “respect” for the American flag than a real show of respect for the ideals it represents. America was born as a protest.

Trump began his war on Black sports industry figures when his press secretary two weeks ago called for the firing of ESPN’s Jemele Hill, who had called Trump a white supremacist. Trump himself demanded ESPN apologize to him. He then attacked the NFL’s Colin Kaepernick, as a “son of a b*tch” on Friday, and then attacked the NBA’s Stephen Curry on Saturday.
