‘His Only Metric Is Size’: Trump Is Really, Really Excited by Hurricane Irma and the Internet Has Noticed
President Gleefully Tweets About Hurricane That Will Bring Death and Destruction
Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic storm ever recorded, has made its first landfall on the Caribbean island of Barbuda, and President Donald Trump is really excited. Packing winds of 185 miles per hour, it is a Category 5 hurricane even bigger than Harvey, and it’s headed for Puerto Rico, Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, the US Virgin Islands, and then Florida.Â

It will undoubtedly bring death and destruction.
Wednesday morning, here’s what President Trump excitedly tweeted:
Hurricane looks like largest ever recorded in the Atlantic!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 6, 2017
That came just minutes after this:
Watching Hurricane closely. My team, which has done, and is doing, such a good job in Texas, is already in Florida. No rest for the weary!

Maybe Donald Trump should watch this clip from The Weather Channel to get an idea of what hurricanes are like:

Meanwhile, people on social media are upset by Trump’s tweets. This is a massive hurricane. Instead of warning people, telling them what resources to turn to and promising their federal government will do everything possible to help them, the president is tweeting gleefully about it, as if it will harm no one.
His only metric is size. No matter what the issue, event, or disaster in front of him is. https://t.co/rxmB2V2DeR

Much bigger than any storm under Obama! #MAGA! https://t.co/rnCSEShDyf

Why is it that Trump’s tweets sound as if he’s excited that Harvey and Irma are record storms that he has to deal with? Rooting 4 disaster?

Let’s not sugar coat things; people WILL die from Irma, there is nothing about this storm (or Harvey) to be excited about. Trump disgusts me

Let me guess… you will be golfing this weekend as Florida sinks?!?!
— Impeach Donald Trump (@Impeach_D_Trump) September 6, 2017
Wake up America. He’s bragging about his hurricane size.
— Erik Stanger (@erikforCO) September 6, 2017
Look at you once again not wishing people in its path that they keep safe. It’s like you’re proud of this hurricane! You’re such a toddler

Stop. Being. Excited.
— Emma Kennedy (@EmmaKennedy) September 6, 2017
You seem excited. That’s sick.
— Patti Digh (@pattidigh) September 6, 2017
He did this with Harvey too. I honestly think he just sees these disasters as television events.
