Trump’s Latest Whipping Boy: Mitch McConnell

GOP Can’t Govern

A totally-not-vacationing President Donald Trump bright and early Thursday morning took to Twitter once again to blast Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for the second day in a row. Trump has decided to blame the Kentucky Republican Senator for the GOP’s failure to repeal and replace ObamaCare, after seven years of telling voters it was their main objective.

Can you believe that Mitch McConnell, who has screamed Repeal & Replace for 7 years, couldn’t get it done. Must Repeal & Replace ObamaCare!” Trump tweeted at 6:54 AM.

That attack, which would be shocking from any other president, followed a similar attack from Trump Thursday afternoon:

Trump is targeting McConnell after the Republican Senator told a Rotary Club group in his home state Monday that the president “had excessive expectations about how quickly things happen in the democratic process.” McConnell even gave Trump an excuse, saying he “has not been in this line of work before.”

Trump was not pleased.

The New York Times Wednesday reports that Trump did not lash out without talking to McConnell first.

“Before Mr. Trump’s tweet, he spoke by phone with Mr. McConnell to express his disappointment in the senator’s comments, according to a person with knowledge of the call,” the Times notes. “Growing animated, Mr. Trump emphasized that he would continue to push for a repeal, the person said, and suggested Mr. McConnell do the same.”

This Republican infighting, while fun to watch, is just further proof that even with control of the House, the Senate, and the White House, they are incapable of governing.
