Trump Refuses to Say McConnell Should Remain Majority Leader (Video)

President Demands McConell Get ObamaCare Repeal, Tax Cuts, Infrastructure Done First

President Donald Trump Thursday afternoon refused to voice support for Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, minutes after doubling down on his threat to launch a nuclear war on North Korea. The President, addressing reporters minutes before a scheduled two-hour intelligence briefing at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf course, was asked if the Kentucky Republican should continue in his role.

President Trump, who has been attacking McConnell all week, refused to say he should retain his position. 

“I just want him to get repeal and replace done,” Trump said, sidestepping the question. “I’ve been hearing ‘repeal and replace’ now for seven years, but I’ve only been doing this for two years and I’ve really only been doing this for six months, but I’ve been running, so now it’s almost two years and all I hear is ‘repeal and replace.’ And then I get there and I said, ‘Where’s the bill? I want to sign it, first day.’ And they don’t have it,” Trump lamented, passing off blame on to GOP lawmakers despite his campaign rhetoric that promised only he could get legislation drafted and passed.

The President has no control over who is chosen Senate Majority Leader.

“And they passed repeal and replace, but they never had a president, frankly, or a Senate that was going to it, but they never had a president so it didn’t matter,” Trump continued, according to a pool report. “So I say very simply, ‘Where is repeal and replace?’ Now I want tax reform and tax cuts. We’re going to reduce taxes for the people. We pay more tax than anybody in the world,” Trump falsely stated.  

“And were going to reduce taxes. So I say, tax cuts, tax reform, and I want a very big infrastructure bill, where we’re working on that very hard already,” Trump claimed, again, falsely – there is no infrastructure bill in place. “And we can do that. And we may even get bipartisan on infrastructure, but we want to have it.”

“But I said, ‘Mitch, get to work and let’s get it done.’ They should have had this last one done. They lost by one vote. For a thing like that to happen is a disgrace and frankly it shouldn’t have happened, that I can tell you.”

Asked directly if Sen. McConnell should step down as Majority Leader, all Trump would say is, “I’ll tell you what. If he doesn’t get repeal and replace done, if he doesn’t get taxes done, meaning cuts and reform, and if he doesn’t get a very easy one to get done – infrastructure – if he doesn’t get that done, then you should ask me that question.”

Minutes earlier, speaking about his remarks threatening “fire and fury” on North Korea, Trump told reporters, “if anything, maybe that statement wasn’t tough enough.” 

Trump’s supposed two-hour intelligence briefing lasted just one hour.
