WATCH: Trump Introduces GOP Bill Limiting Immigration to People Who ‘Speak English’ – Even Fox News Not on Board

Fox News Blasts White House Over Bill That ‘Will Never Pass the Common Understanding of the First Amendment’

President Donald Trump on Wednesday joined two anti-immigrant Senate Republicans to announce his support for their bill which would dramatically alter America’s current immigration system by no longer attempting to unite or keep families together, and by requiring all new immigrants to speak English.

“This would be the most significant reform to the immigration system in half a century,” Trump said Wednesday, speaking with Republican Senators David Perdue of Georgia and Tom Cotton of Arkansas. “It is a historic and very vital proposal.”

The Trump White House has been working with the two lawmakers for weeks on the legislation, called the RAISE Act, according to the LA Times.

At today’s announcement the President rattled off a list of positive economic achievements, including today’s record-high DOW, but was unable to comprehend that immigrants have a positive impact on the economy. He also claimed the GDP was “much higher than anybody anticipated,” which is erroneous – it is not especially high.

“The reforms in the RAISE Act will help ensure that newcomers to our wonderful country will be assimilated,” Trump told reporters.

Trump also claimed that “the green card reforms in the RAISE Act will give American workers a pay raise by reducing unskilled immigration.” That’s illogical.

And he added the new legislation would end “chain migration,” which is the policy that helps keep families together.

“This competitive application process will favor applicants who can speak English,” Trump said, stressing those two words, “financially support themselves and their families, and demonstrate skills that contribute to our economy. “The RAISE Act prevents new migrants and new immigrants from collecting welfare, and prevents U.S. Workers from being displaced.”

But U.S. law already prohibits new immigrants from collecting welfare for a period of five years.

Even Fox News’ “Judge Napolitano” opposed the English-speaking requirement.

“Having it as a requirement would keep somebody like Einstein out, or Wernher Von Braun, who helped with the U.S. missile system – people who are brilliant in their home countries,” he said after Trump’s announcement. “Requiring it will never pass the common understanding of the First Amendment.”

Conservative commentator Mercedes Schlapp also on Fox News Business said the bill “will go nowhere,” and blasted the White House for even discussing it since “we’re supposed to be talking about tax reform” this week.

“This is just throwing a bill out there,” she complained.
