Rex Tillerson Says State Department Expresses American Values, Trump ‘Speaks For Himself’ (Video)

‘Many Sides’ Fallout Continues

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Sunday that while the State Department represents America’s values, the President of the United States speaks for himself.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday” with host Chris Wallace, Tillerson was pressed about the controversy surrounding the president’s insistence that there was violence “on many sides” at the deadly, racially-charged rally in Virginia this month that cost activist Heather Heyer her life. (The president lied about his comments this week.)

“We express America’s values from the State Department,” Tillerson began. “We represent the American people, we represent America’s values. Our commitment to freedom, our commitment to equal people the world over, and that message has never changed.”

Wallace pressed Tillerson about the president’s comments, inquiring if in light of which, the world had begun to doubt if Americans were living said values.

“I don’t believe anyone doubts the American people’s values, or the commitment of the American government, or the governments agencies to advancing those values and defending those values,” Tillerson replied.

“And the president’s values?” Wallace asked.

“The president speaks for himself, Chris,” the Secretary of State offered his stunning response, prompting some silence. Wallace seemed stunned, but pressed on.
