Trump Calls Him ‘A Great Guy’
David Clarke, the far right wing extremist Trump ally and surrogate who inexplicably resigned Thursday afternoon as Milwaukee County Sheriff without notice, is expected to take a White House job. Citing “two sources familiar with the matter,” Politico reported the news Thursday evening.
“It’s unclear what job Clarke will take in the administration, but one of the sources said he’s expected to join the White House,” Politico notes. “Clarke likely won’t be offered a Senate-confirmed role because his nomination would face opposition from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.”
“We have no announcement at this time,†White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said. In a text message, Clarke said, “Will talk about my future plans next week.”
Immediately when news broke that Clarke had resigned, many on social media feared Clarke, who has been labeled a “fascist,” would be tapped to become Secretary of Homeland Security, a cabinet position that is currently open.
Their concerns were not invalid. President trump is a big fan of Clarke, and just days ago posted a tweet promoting Clarke’s book and praising the law enforcement officer.
Clarke had also accepted a job as an Assistant Secretary at DHS until a CNN report accusing him of plagiarism apparently derailed that opportunity.
