Internet Mocks Trump After He Tweets He Can’t Pass Any Bills Yet Has Passed More Than Most
“Obama Never Had to Tell Americans ‘How Great He Was’. We Just Knew.”
In a Friday morning rant it took President Trump just eleven minutes to go from lamenting that eight Democrats control the Senate thanks to the filibuster and he won’t be able to get any bills passed, to bragging that he has passed more bills than almost any other president.
Trump, of course, is not responsible for passing more bills than almost any other president – at least, not bills of substance – and in fact his impact on the House and the Senate has been at best minimal, and at worst actually harmful to his own agenda. Threatening lawmakers of one’s own party, by name, is rarely productive.
The other problem with Trump’s attack on Democrats is the filibuster was not the problem when it came to passing major bills he wanted. ObamaCare repeal, for example, required just 50 votes plus the Vice President, yet Trump couldn’t manage to pull together enough Republicans to get that done (fortunately.)
Here’s what Trump said Friday morning:
“If Senate Republicans don’t get rid of the Filibuster Rule and go to a 51% majority, few bills will be passed. 8 Dems control the Senate!”
Minutes later:
“Few, if any, Administrations have done more in just 7 months than the Trump A. Bills passed, regulations killed, border, military, ISIS, SC!”
Sean Hannity Thursday night might have been the inspiration for Trump’s bragging this morning:

On Twitter, many mocked the President:
Within 11 minutes Trump goes from saying bills can’t pass to saying he’s passed more than most admins. Both untrue, both just cover. pic.twitter.com/Fur1by2Q63

Only someone deeply out of touch, completely unconcerned with outright lying & looking foolish, would do something like this.

If facts matter:
-Highest-ever use of filibuster, by far, was under McConnell’s GOP vs Obama
-Trump’s big losses have been on majority votes https://t.co/3Rn3Uv6LQw— James Fallows (@JamesFallows) August 25, 2017
In just 11 minutes, Trump went from complaining how few bills were being passed to touting how many bills he’s passed. May be a record. pic.twitter.com/dXRhxv4SIM

First 7 months:
Obama passed stimulus
Bush passed tax cuts
Clinton passed family leave act
HW Bush passed bank rescue
Reagan passed tax cuts https://t.co/fw8X5U7tp8— Damian Paletta (@damianpaletta) August 25, 2017

Trump complains few bills are being passed due to filibuster, then boasts that he’s passed more bills in 7 months than nearly any president.

You just tweeted that Bills can’t be passed because of 8 Dems. Now you says they are being passed? Dementia Much?

Obama never had to tell Americans “how great he was”. We just knew.

Are you really this ignorant? You are wrong! The Republicans control the Senate. Your bills just suck!
