North Korea Must ‘Get Their Act Together’ President Says

Just 48 hours after threatening North Korea with nuclear war in remarks that were met with shock from the diplomatic, military, and political communities around the world, President Donald Trump is doubling down and has effectively put North Korea on notice.

In remarks before a scheduled security and intelligence briefing at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf course, the Commander-in-Chief told reporters that perhaps his remarks Tuesday were not tough enough, according to the Associated Press.

“Maybe it wasn’t tough enough,” a bombastic Trump told reporters. “It’s about time someone stuck up for the people of our country.”

“So if anything, maybe that statement wasn’t tough enough,” Trump continued. “And we’re backed 100 percent by our military, we’re back by everybody and we’re backed by many other leaders. And I noticed that many senators and others came out today very much in favor of what I said. But if anything that statement may not be tough enough.”

Many Senators have not come out in support of his comments.

The AP adds: “Trump tells North Korea to ‘get their act together’ or it will be in trouble ‘like few nations have ever been’.”

Trump said that what North Korea is doing cannot be allowed. He also blasted Presidents Clinton and Obama for their policies on North Korea. Clinton was “weak and ineffective,” Trump said. Obama “didn’t even want to talk about” North Korea, Trump charged.

Asked, what is tougher than fire and fury, Trump responded, “We’ll see.” And then, asked if he is considering a preemptive strike,  Trump said: “We don’t talk about that. I never do.”

Asked if he could reassure Americans who are worried ever since news broke Tuesday that North Korea has now the ability to miniaturize a nuclear bomb and place it inside an intercontinental missile, Trump did not offer much solace, other than sating Americans “should be very comfortable.”

“I will tell you this,” he continued, per the pool report. “If North Korea does anything in terms of even thinking about attack of anybody that we love or we represent or our allies or us, they can be very, very nervous. I’ll tell you why. And they should be very nervous. Because things will happen to them like they never thought possible, OK? He’s been pushing the world around for a long time.”

Trump made his remarks standing next to Vice President Mike Pence. His Chief of Staff, John Kelly, was nearby, according to reports. 

The move is typical of Trump, who generally doubles down rather than back down, which he sees as a show of weakness, regardless of what’s right.
