As Trump Retweets Fox News Stories on His ‘Fire and Fury’ Threat Tillerson Says ‘Americans Should Sleep Well at Night’
‘We Are Closer to Nuclear Use Now Than at Any Time Since the Cuban Missile Crisis’ Says Nuclear Arms Expert
Sixteen hours after President Trump stunned the world by threatening North Korea with “fire, fury, and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before,” he was watching Fox News and retweeting their stories about his volatile and disturbing remarks.
Â
Trump, clearly pleased with the “Fox & Friends” coverage of his comments from Tuesday, is not backing down or making any attempt to escalate a situation experts are calling as close to nuclear war as America has been since the cuban missile crisis.
President Barack Obama’s Senior Director for Arms Control and Nonproliferation at the National Security Council, Jon Wolfsthal, posted these tweets:
We are closer to nuclear use now than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis. We need the President to stabilize, not disrupt.

Statement by President Trump threatening North Korea perhaps most irresponsible statement I have ever seen come from a sitting President. 1/

Meanwhile, on a flight to Guam, which North Korea threatened to launch missiles against after President Trump’s violent rhetoric, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson aimed to reassure the nation.
“Americans should sleep well at night,” the Secretary of State said. Stressing that war was not imminent, he added:Â “I have nothing that I have seen and nothing that I know of would indicate that the situation has dramatically changed in the last 24 hours.”

“I have no concerns about this particular rhetoric of the past few days,” he said, adding he thinks Trump, “as Commander-in-Chief felt it necessary to issue a very strong statement.”
Tillerson’s trip to Guam reportedly was a scheduled fueling stop, but certainly timely.
