Group Ready to ‘Fight Like Hell’
Lambda Legal has announced that it will file suit against Donald Trump for his ban of transgender service members.
As NCRM reported today, the White House has approved policy to ban transgender service members based on Donald Trump’s tweets made last week. The policy, first reported by The Los Angeles Blade, would reportedly “encourage early retirement, usher out any enlisted personnel after their contract is up, and would fire trans officers up for promotion.â€
Lambda Legal responded to the news today, announcing their lawsuit:
“I am a transgender military veteran,†Lambda Legal Staff Attorney Sasha Buchert wrote in the announcement. “The move to purge transgender military personnel is dishonorable to the thousands of transgender men and women who are serving our country with courage and who are integral parts of our armed services.â€
“The safety of all service members – transgender or not – is undermined by a policy like this that distracts from the important missions they have for no valid reason,†Buchert continued. “It is also a slap in the face of the leadership who have worked diligently to develop and implement the current policy which has been in place for more than a year without incident.â€
Buchert further cited the wide-spread condemnation of the discriminatory move, noting that a majority of Americans support allowing transgender men and women to openly serve. “This mean-spirited and discriminatory attack on our community is capricious, irrational and clearly driven by anti-LGBT forces in the administration who care more about harming transgender people than keeping our nation safe. It is clearly unconstitutional.â€Â
“Lambda Legal has a long history of fighting for LGBT service members,†Buchert concluded, “and we’re more than ready to fight like hell again. See you in court, President Trump.â€
