Trump Attacks GOP for Doing ‘Very Little to Protect’ Him, Democrats for ‘Phony Russian Witch Hunt’

Congress Reached Deal Yesterday on ‘Sweeping Sanctions’ for Russia

Donald Trump, who today marked his 42nd trip to one of his golf properties as president, took to Twitter Sunday to attack both Democrats and Republicans.

“As the phony Russian Witch Hunt continues,” Trump wrote, “two groups are laughing at this excuse for a lost election taking hold, Democrats and Russians!”

The president’s tweet mirrors the White House’s new Communications Director’s appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” today. Anthony Scaramucci confirmed that the president still doesn’t accept the consensus of all 17 U.S. government intelligence agencies that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

“He basically said to me, ‘Hey you know, this is, maybe they did it, maybe they didn’t do it,’” Scaramucci said.

The president took on the Republican party next, advising that “it’s very sad that Republicans, even some that were carried over the line on my back, do very little to protect their President.”

While it’s unclear what prompted the attacks, The New York Times reported yesterday that congressional leaders have “reached an agreement on sweeping sanctions legislation to punish Russia for its election meddling and aggression toward its neighbors… defying the White House’s argument that President Trump needs flexibility to adjust the sanctions to fit his diplomatic initiatives with Moscow.”

But as one Twitter user pointed out:
