‘That Was Like 4 Lies Ago!’: Twitter Explodes as Spicer Claims Trump Jr’s Meeting Was About Adoption
‘The President Was Clear Through His Tweet’ Spicer Says in His First Press Conference in 3 Weeks
Even after Donald Trump Jr. released the emails that prove he met with several Russians last year with the expressed goal of obtaining “dirt” on his father’s Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, the White House is still defending the president’s son’s original story, that the meeting was about Russian adoptions. That story was wholly debunked the moment Donald Trump Jr. posted the emails last week.
But that’s not what White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Monday afternoon.
Referring to President Trump’s own tweet from just hours ago, one reporter asked Spicer, “who’s right?”, FBI director nominee Christopher Wray, who said the right course of action is to contact the FBI, or Pres. Trump., who said “any politician” would have taken the meeting with the Russians.
“The president was clear through his tweet,” Spicer said, adding, “there was nothing as far as we know of that would lead anyone to believe there was anything except for a discussion about adoption and the Magnitsky Act,” Spicer said, erroneously pronouncing the law’s name.Â
Trump Jr.’s meeting, of course, wasn’t about “adoption policy,” as both President Trump and Donald Trump Jr. have made exceptionally clear on this, the tenth day of this scandal.

Has Spicer not checked in with the news cycle since last Saturday? POTUS, Don Jr., various allies copped to purpose being dirt on Clinton https://t.co/pcyEoFf7Uq

It’s really kind of amazing that Spicer would get out there and lie about this even after Trump openly admitted the opposite.

More lies & alternative facts from the White House. What part of Trump Jr.’s email did you not read, Sean? It states Russian involvement!

Why is White House backtracking about @DonaldJTrumpJr Russian mtg? BECAUSE THEY KNOW GETTING OPPO RESEARCH FROM A FOREIGN POWER IS ILLEGAL. https://t.co/3QY1hp7Gue

This was the most obvious question — and @PhilipRucker asked it yesterday even! Yet, this is what they had. This is what they prepared. https://t.co/RXM8xmL4dX
