Internet Explodes in Mockery and Memes on News Sean Spicer Quits as Press Secretary

‘Daily Show’ Posts Hilarious ‘R.I.P.’ Memorial

Sean Spicer has just resigned as White House Press Secretary, exactly one day after President Donald Trump reached the six-month mark in office. Trump directed him to lie to the American people literally from day one, when Spicer held his first press briefing and was ordered to defy obvious evidence that proved President Barack Obama’s inauguration was attended by far more people than President Trump’s.

Spicer lied to reporters almost on a daily basis. He was mocked mercilessly by Melissa McCarthy on “Saturday Night Live,” and even given the cold shoulder during Trump’s trip to the Vatican. Spicer, reportedly the only Catholic on the trip, was not allowed to meet the Pope.

Spicer was attacked by the President, from his performance to his suits, and Trump even refused to defend him in an interview with Fox News’ “Judge Jeanine.”

Working for a President who also lies to the American people, an average of 4.6 times a day, wasn’t reason enough for Spicer to quit.

What did it was Trump’s appointment Friday morning of former hedge fund manager Anthony Scaramucci to be Spicer’s Communication’s Director.

That was the straw that broke Spicer’s back.

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle just reported Steve Bannon told Anthony Scaramucci “to his face” he would be appointed White House Communications Director over his “dead body.”

While the resignation of Sean Spicer may be comical, in the long view it’s a huge blow to a White House in crisis.

On Twitter, many are enjoying the news, either mocking Spicer or noting he “sold his soul,” or posting memes. Take a look:
