Chris Christie Attacked and Mocked After Closing State Beaches to Everyone but Himself and His Family

New Jersey Governor Lies About Getting Some Sun

Gov. Chris Christie is under fire after initiating a government shutdown causing all state services and facilities closed. That includes at least 45 state parks and beaches across 130 miles of the historic Jersey Shore. Those beaches are closed this July 4 holiday weekend to all, except Chris Christie, his family, and several invited guests.

The official governor’s summer house provided by New Jersey taxpayers at Island Beach State Park was open for Christie and his family and friends, who were not worried about being the only ones able to enjoy the beach, as NJ.com reports.

Aerial photos by NJ.com show Christie, his wife Mary Pat, and at least nine other people having the entire beach to themselves, while other state beaches were closed and local beaches were packed.

The photos were taken early Sunday afternoon, before Christie held a press conference to discus the government shutdown, only the second in the state’s history, which started Friday at midnight after his inability to reach a budget agreement with lawmakers.

A reporter asked the New Jersey governor, who hold the lowest approval rating in the state’s history, if he perhaps had gotten any sun that day.

“I didn’t,” Christie said. “I didn’t get any sun today.”

Christie’s spokesperson Brian Murray was later confronted with a photo of the governor on the beach.

“Yes, the governor was on the beach briefly today talking to his wife and family before heading into the office,” Murray responded.

“He did not get any sun,” the spokesperson added. “He had a baseball hat on.”

On Twitter, many were quick to respond:
