John McCain, Battling Cancer, Destroys His Legacy as a Statesman by Flying to DC to Cast Deciding Vote to Debate Stealing Health Care From Millions
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has just scored a major victory in his fight to steal health care coverage from tens of millions of Americans in order to cut taxes on the wealthiest one percent. Without knowing exactly what they were voting on, Senate Republicans voted to proceed on a motion to pass an ObamaCare repeal bill. The contents of the bill, and the effect it will have on both the federal budget and millions of people is largely unknown.
Every Democrat refused to even vote no until all Republicans voted yes.
Stunningly, Senator John McCain (R-AZ), who announced just last week he has a likely fatal form of brain cancer after he flew home to have a blood clot removed, flew back to D.C. Tuesday and cast his vote to proceed on the bill to strip health care coverage from millions. Sen. McCain was the final “yes” vote of the GOP Senators. Asked his vote, he gave two “thumbs up.”
The vote was 51 yes votes, 50 no votes.
Vice President Mike Pence was on hand to cast the final needed vote to proceed.
Senator Dean Heller, Republican of Nevada, whose own Republican governor urged him to vote against repealing ObamaCare, also voted to proceed on the bill. Heller had promised he would vote against the bill unless major changes were made. They were not.
Senator Rand Paul, who has been for months very actively announcing he is a “no” vote, also voted to proceed, as did Sen. Shelley Moore Capito. She has been an expected no for weeks also. Her West Virginia constituents reportedly will be the most-harmed by her ObamaCare repeal vote.

Other Republicans voting yes, who were undecided previously: Senators Ron Johnson, Jeff Flake, Dan Sullivan.
GOP Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski voted no.
It is expected an additional 32 million more people by 2026 will be without health care caused by today’s move.
The only certainty if the bill ultimately passes is that millions will become uninsured, and thousands will die:
