Benham Brothers Freak Out Over Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Reading to Children at the Library

‘When Church Stops Being the Conscience of Culture Our Kids Grow Up Influenced Like This’ –Jason Benham

The Benham Brothers are freaking out over a Facebook post by the Boston Public Library showing the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence reading a book to young children. The Sisters, who usually appear in a form of religious drag, are an international nonprofit who work to fight intolerance, educate, minister, raise money to fight HIV/AIDS and to help LGBT organizations.

“We’re closing out #PrideMonth today at the Boston Public Library with a Drag Queen Story Time at the Children’s Library, Boston Public Library, featuring The Boston Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence!” the library wrote on Facebook (above). The post includes a photo of two Sisters reading to children.

The Benham Brothers are anti-gay extremist activists from North Carolina whose claim to fame has been having their HGTV show canceled before it aired after their views and activities were made public.

On Twitter, the Brothers wrote:

“The only thing necessary for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.” Someone in Boston please speak up – this is obscene.

It’s unclear what they think is happening, but children being read a book by the Sisters is neither “obscene” nor “evil.” It’s also a direct attack on both the Sisters and the parents who were comfortable enough to allow their children to attend.

Jason Benham added:

Now, let’s take a closer look at this.

The Benham Brothers are literally asking for “the church,” though it’s unclear which church, to be “the conscience of culture.” In other words, the church, whichever one they choose, would be responsible for deciding what’s moral and acceptable, and what’s not.

That’s literally part of the theme of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

On their website, the Sisters explain their mission.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence® is a leading-edge Order of queer nuns. Since our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty and we use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit.”

Just how extreme are the Benham Brothers?

In December, upon learning North Carolina’s unconstitutional anti-LGBT law HB2 might be repealed, they announced it was now “open season on Christians.”

In a disgusting “joke” the Brothers claimed that passage of the Charlotte nondiscrimination ordinance would allow them to join a women’s basketball league.

They have defended The Duggars, compared themselves to victims of ISIS, said the “gay agenda” is “evil and wrong” and “needs to be stopped.”

And that’s just for starters. GLAAD has a rather disturbing list of more of David Benham’s anti-LGBT remarks.
