WATCH: Trump Friend and Adviser Says President ‘Considering’ Firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller

‘It Would Be a Bombshell of Epic Proportions’ Says CNN’s Erin Burnett

Christopher Ruddy, who often seems to appear just as the President is getting himself in to more trouble, says Donald Trump is considering firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller. It could create a constitutional crisis not seen since Watergate.

“I think he’s considering perhaps terminating the special counsel,” Ruddy, who for years has golfed with Trump and offered him advice, told PBS Newshour’s Judy Woodruff Monday night. Ruddy reportedly was seen leaving the White House today, which the White House denies.

“I think he’s weighing that option,” Ruddy, who co-founded and serves as CEO of the very right wing media Newsmax TV and website.

Ruddy opined that he thinks firing Mueller “would be a very significant mistake,” but, as he always does, stood by to defend Trump, saying he didn’t think there was “justification” for hiring a special counsel at all. Ruddy went on tho claim there is no evidence of any wrongdoing by Trump, which is false.

CNN’s Erin Burnett Monday night said if Trump were to fire Mueller “it would be a bombshell of epic proportions.” California Attorney General Xavier Beccerra said it would be reminiscent of Watergate.

Over the past day or two Trump loyalists have gotten his message out to the media. Newt Gingrich was among the first. Less than a month ago Gingrich tweeted:

But on Monday, hypocritically, he offered this:

And CNN reports “Newt Gingrich reportedly told radio host John Catsimatidis that Congress should ‘abolish the independent counsel.'”

“I think Congress should now intervene and they should abolish the independent counsel,” the former House speaker said. “Because Comey makes so clear that it’s the poison fruit of a deliberate manipulation by the FBI director leaking to The New York Times, deliberately set up this particular situation. It’s very sick.”

Trump’s attorney took to ABC News to say he wouldn’t “speculate” on whether or not Trump would fire Mueller.

Meanwhile, House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Adam Schiff (D-CA), made clear what would happen if Trump fired the special counsel:

Schiff discussed the issue on MSNBC’s “Hardball”:
