What Will Happen? ‘Issued a Warning Letter’

Dan Scavino, an assistant to the president and the director of White House social media violated the law by calling for the defeat of  a U.S. Congressman, Politico reports. Scavino used his official position to attack Republican Rep. Justin Amash via a tweet labeling him “a big liability,” and calling on the “TrumpTrain,” i.e., Trump devotees, to “defeat” him in an April primary, according to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, a federal prosecutorial agency. That, the OSC writes, is a violation of the Hatch Act.

The OSC’s Hatch Unit chief, Ana Galindo-Marrone, writes that Scavino was issued a warning letter, and “was recently counseled about the Hatch Act by the Office of the White House Counsel.”

It does not appear, according to the report by Politico, that Scavino will be disciplined any further.

Scavino is responsible for the now-infamous anti-Semitic attack on Hillary Clinton last summer. He posted to Twitter a meme that reportedly originated on a neo-Nazi white supremacist forum. It included an image of Hillary Clinton atop a bed of $100 bills, next to the Star of David, and the words, “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever.”
