Trump: ‘Effective Immediately I Am Canceling the Last Administration’s One-Sided Deal With Cuba’ (Video)

Shocking Move

President Donald Trump Friday afternoon at a campaign-style rally in Miami told supporters he is canceling the Obama administration’s historic move last December, that re-established diplomatic ties with Cuba. Trump’s move re-establishes the embargo, and, he says, is in effect until the island nation meets all his demands.

“Effective immediately I am canceling the last administration’s one-sided deal with Cuba.”

“We will enforce the ban on tourism. We will enforce the embargo,” Trump said.

“We will not lift sanctions on the Cuban regime until all political prisoners are free.”

The stunning move was not expected, although Trump’s White House had made clear he would be rolling back some of the Obama administration’s work to re-establish Cuban relations.

UPDATE I: 2:13 PM EDT –
The full extent of Trump’s announcement is unclear. CNN reports the Trump “administration will begin strictly enforcing the authorized exemptions that allow travel between the US and Cuba and prohibit commerce with Cuban businesses owned by the military and intelligence services.”

But contrary to Trump’s remarks, CNN also reports: “None of these new regulations take effect immediately, a White House official said, adding that government agencies are expected to officially issue the regulatory amendments in the coming months.”
