Senate Republicans’ Health Care Bill Has Even Less Support Than House GOP’s Bill, Just Released Poll Shows

Five Points Less Than House Version

The American people have spoken, and it’s not good for Senate Republicans’ health care bill. A new poll finds that a dismal 12 percent of Americans support the Senate Republicans’ plan to repeal and “replace” ObamaCare, a five-point drop from where Americans placed the House Republicans’ version.

The just-released USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll also finds a majority of Americans (53%) would rather Congress fix ObamaCare, or just leave it alone, rather than replace it.

Republicans overall oppose the Senate bill, with just 26% approving of it. But the poll finds one problem, the motivating factor for Republican Senators: “Eight in 10 Republicans support repeal,” even though just one in four approve of the bill currently under consideration.

The USA Today survey, which was conducted Saturday through Tuesday, also reveals Americans don’t trust the GOP, including President Donald Trump, to handle health care.

By more than 4-1, those surveyed trust congressional Democrats over congressional Republicans to protect the interests of them and their families on health care, 43%-10%.”

Only “19% say they trust President Trump most. The president’s ratings on handling health care far lags his standing on other issues, including the economy and national security. Twenty-seven percent approve of the job he’s doing on health care; 61% disapprove.”

On Tuesday Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has refused to allow Democrats to help draft the bill, and has kept the draft hidden even from his own caucus until it was released last week, was forced to delay a vote on the legislation he promised would take place before the July 4 recess.

While the Senate version, which will take away coverage from 22 million more people, is temporarily sidelined Americans have an opportunity to help kill it for good. They can call their Senators’ offices in their home states or by calling the Capitol Hill Switchboard: (202) 224-3121. They can also check their Senators’ websites (top of the Senate.gov page) to see if and when they have town halls or other meeting opportunities available.

The TrumpCare Toolkit makes contacting 15 key Senators by phone or Twitter easy.
