Morning Briefing: 5 Things for Wednesday: Trump Nominates New FBI Director, Day One of Intelligence Chiefs Testifying, Trumps’ Charity Scam
Here’s What You Need to Start Your Day
Good Wednesday Morning!
If you went to sleep early last night, you missed a lot of huge news! We’ll try to recap.
Here are five things you need to know for today:
- Day One of Intelligence Chiefs Testifying: The media has been hyping former FBI Director Jim Comey’s appearance on Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee – and it’s sure to offer important insight – but today at 10 AM EDT Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers, and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Expect some important revelations. Watch on C-SPAN or on the Intelligence Committee’s hearings page.
- Trump just announced a nominee to head the FBI. Details here. Should Democrats try to block him, since Trump is under investigation?
- Forbes reports Eric Trump’s charity for kids with cancer became a funnel for cash to Trump businesses. Disgusting.
- Tuesday night we learned: (1) Trump asked Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats to intervene with Jim Comey to convince the FBI Director to end the Bureau’s Russia investigation. (2) GOP congressional candidate Karen Handel duing a debate with Democrat Jon Ossoff said: “I do not support a livable wage.” (3) Trump fell for a fake news story planted by Russia hackers and took to Twitter to attack our ally in the Middle East, Qatar, where we have our largest military base in the region and 11,000 troops.
- Finally, during Betsy DeVos’ testimony Tuesday, Fusion posted this tweet:
The guy on the left is ALL of us watching Education Sec. Betsy DeVos refuse to say whether discrimination is allowed under her leadership. pic.twitter.com/dfJVmj6L39

Which prompted this response from U.S. Senator Brian Schatz:
I’m the guy on the left. And yes. https://t.co/uKzf6ihaEC
