Morning Briefing: 5 Things for Tuesday – Will Trump Fire Mueller, Sessions Testifies, Advertiser Quits Kelly

Here’s What You Need to Start Your Day

Good Tuesday morning!

Here are five things you need to know for today:

  • At 2:30 PM EDT Attorney General Jeff Sessions will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee in an open hearing. Expect the cable news networks, C-SPAN, and new sites including NCRM, to carry it live. Sessions likely will invoke executive privilege. He is accused of perjuring himself during his confirmation hearing.
  • Trump’s BFF Christopher Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax, said Monday Trump is considering firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller. It would lead to a constitutional crisis.
  • Many across the nation are furious NBC News’ Megyn Kelly is interviewing fake news purveyor Alex Jones for a show that airs Sunday, Father’s Day. Jones makes his living by claiming, among other false statements, that the massacre of 20 children and six adults at the Sandy Hook elementary school was faked. And now, J.P. Morgan has pulled its advertising in protest.
  • “Russia’s cyberattack on the U.S. electoral system before Donald Trump’s election was far more widespread than has been publicly revealed, including incursions into voter databases and software systems in almost twice as many states as previously reported,” Bloomberg reports, noting Russian hackers got inside voting system in 39 states.
  • Elizabeth Warren: Jeff Sessions needs to be fired.
