UPDATED: George Conway, Who Recently Backed Out of White House Nomination, Posts Tweet Slamming Trump

‘Sad.’

Editor’s note: See update below…

George T. Conway III, a noted attorney, a former top Trump administration nominee, and the man who happens to be the husband of Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway, Monday morning posted a tweet disparaging President Donald Trump’s earlier Twitter tantrum on his Muslim ban.

These tweets may make some ppl feel better, but they certainly won’t help OSG get 5 votes in SCOTUS, which is what actually matters,” Conway tweeted. He ended it with by mocking Trump’s well-known Twitter conclusion. “Sad,” Conway wrote.

Conway was referring to the Office of the Solicitor general, who argues cases before the Supreme Court, and who today will be filing a brief defending Trump’s Muslim travel ban. Trump’s Twitter tantrum early Monday morning effectively negated any claim the Solicitor General can make claiming it is not a Muslim ban, and it is not targeted at Muslims.

“People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!” President Trump tweeted at 6:25 AM Monday morning, adding, “The Justice Dept. should have stayed with the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted to S.C.,” referring to the Supreme Court.

The irony of Conway’s tweet could not be more palpable, especially since Kellyanne Conway Monday morning on the “TODAY” show bashed the media for reporting on Trump’s tweets.

George Conway, a litigator and partner at Wachtell Lipton, had been Trump’s pick to become the head of the Civil Division of the Department of Justice, a hugely important position greatly affecting civil rights policy and administration. He withdrew from the nomination on Wednesday, after a very slow confirmation process.

For those wondering if indeed this is Kellyanne Conway’s husband, two tweets she posted in recent years identified this Twitter account as belonging to her husband:

Several on Twitter pointed out the tweet was Conway’s, including attorney and founder of Above the Law blog, David Lat:
