Fox News Contributor: ‘The Political Left Is Becoming the American ISIS’

‘There Is No Escape From the American ISIS That Is the Political Left’ Says Erick Erickson

The political left is becoming the American ISIS.” So says Fox News contributor Erick Erickson in a series of blog posts at The Resurgent on Monday. Erickson, whose influence has been waning over the past few years as his religious extremism seems to take control of much of his writing, apparently needs to resort to extremism to get attention.

For instance, in “Let’s Consider Secession,” which he published early Monday morning, Erickson writes, “the left would have us believe that there is more violence on the right where history itself shows that is not true. From Nazism to Communism to progressivism itself, there has been more butchery from leftwing ideologies throughout human history than from the right — and yes despite popular historic revisionism, Nazism is from the left and had an American progressive fan club that included Margaret Sanger, patron saint of killing kids.”

Almost none of that is factual, not in today’s world.

First, right wing violence has surpassed violence from domestic jihadists, according to a 2015 study. More proof. More proof. More proof.

Second, Nazism is not a left-wing ideology, not in these times. Proof. (How many left-wing skinheads do you know?)

Third, Margaret Sanger was very much anti-Nazism, and shame on Erickson for saying otherwise. Proof.

“There is only a one way street and the crowd that demands tolerance only wants tolerance for themselves. All others must be silenced,” Erickson writes. “The political left is becoming the American ISIS.”

(An important sidenote: In 2015 Erickson compared gay activists to ISIS.)

Erickson also suggests being pro-choice and supporting same-sex marriage are minority views, which is false. Extremely false. His “fix”?

Federalism should be the answer. Those who want gay marriage and kid killing should be allowed to do it in their state and those who want to live in state that does not allow gay marriage or the murder of children should be allowed to. The founders wanted us to solve those moral issues at the state level and allow each state its own values and ways. That is how it should work. That would be the cure for what ails us.”

The last thing America needs is self-segregation based on “moral” views. But, then again, he’s calling for secession.

In our present atmosphere there is no escape from the American ISIS that is the political left. Evil preaches tolerance until it is dominant and then it seeks to silence good. Evil is now dominant — but the partisan line is blurred,” he writes.

(If you’re asking how this guy is still employed at Fox News, well…)

If all this weren’t enough, several hours later Erickson published, “American ISIS.”

ISIS takes the “convert or die” position. This growing strain of the American left takes the “convert or be destroyed” position. The former will cut off your head. The latter will destroy your livelihood, take away your business, drive you from the public square, and use the government to drive you to bankruptcy. It’ll also gun you down on a baseball field.

This is not a left-right divide, but an earthly vs. heavenly divide. Grace comes from Heaven and the things of this world hate the things of Heaven. Both American secular progressivism and Islam are things of this world. They may be mutually incompatible, but will gladly ignore each other while they mutually work to stamp out the things of Heaven before turning on each other.

Feel free to write Erickson off as a religious extremist (sure, that’s fitting) but know that his words are gospel to more people than you or I would care to admit.

And words have power. Dangerous power.

So there’s a right wing religious extremist who has a platform on Fox News, a radio show, and a podcast on iTunes. Know that his ability to infect the minds of many with his baseless ranting is something that should make every American concerned.
