First Lady Melania Trump Defends President’s Vulgar Attack on Journalist Mika Brzezinski

White House Also Defends President

First Lady Melania Trump is standing by President Donald Trump after he attacked journalist Mika Brzezinski in a vulgar and offensive manner.

“As the First Lady has stated publicly in the past, when her husband gets attacked, he will punch back 10 times harder,” the First Lady’s Director of Communications Stephanie Grisham said, as CNN’s Jeremy Diamond reports.

Earlier Thursday morning, President Trump posted these tweets attacking Brzezinski and her co-host and fiancé, Joe Scarborough.

The tweets drew anger and outrage, especially from journalists rushing to defend Brzezinski.

The White House also defended the President. Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said: “This is a president who fights fire with fire and certainly will not be allowed to be bullied by liberal media.”

In one of her rare public addresses, Melania Trump had promised to work to reduce online bullying.

“Our culture has gotten too mean and too rough, especially to children and teenagers,” Melania Trump told her husband’s supporters in a speech just five days before the election. The Trump campaign used that speech and her remarks to position her as a moderating influence on Donald Trump.

The First Lady moved into the White House earlier this month, but if anything, the President’s behavior has gotten worse, not better.

Just before her move the White House announced she would not be taking up the fight against online bullying. Politico had reported “that initiative has since been cast aside,” according to a White House official.
