Donald Trump Jr. Just Went on a Tweetstorm. Almost Nothing He Said Is True.
Talk About ‘Fake News’
Donald Trump Jr. has made clear he has no intention of staying out of politics. He uses Twitter nearly every day to try to hammer Democrats and progressives, without even an attempt to remember his father promised to be president for all Americans – and he promised to stay out of politics to run the family business. But while the eldest Trump scion madly tweets – like father, like son! – it’s clear he has no original ideas and just parrots what he hears from within what apparently is a media diet of mostly Fox News, The Daily Caller, and Breitbart.
It’s downright troubling that a son of the President of the United States has decided that it’s totally acceptable to be so publicly a partisan hack, a wholly unprecedented move. But this is the era of Trump, where fascistic opinions and offensive behavior (like this) are not only tolerated, but celebrated in many corners of the GOP.
What’s also downright troubling is the level of ignorance of basic facts, and worse, the apparent inability or refusal to just Google something before repeating it. It’s truly stunning how many false “facts” are spewed from the Trump family whose clarion call supposedly is the fight against “the fake news media.”
Take Donald Trump Jr’s Wednesday morning tweetstorm.
Literally almost nothing he said is true.Â
Like this:
Karen Handel becomes 1st Woman Rep GA has sent to Congress. Still waiting for the glass ceiling stories, or do conservatives not get them?
— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) June 21, 2017
Now, if Jr. is claiming Handel is the first woman Rep., as in Representative, Georgia has sent to Congress, he didn’t bother to Google it. Meet Helen Douglas Mankin, born in 1894. She won a special election and served from 1946 – 1947. Before her, succeeding her husband was Florence Gibbs, who served from October 1, 1940 to January 3, 1941. And then Iris Blitch, who served from 1955-1963. Cynthia McKinney, who served three times, between 1993 and 2007. And Denise Majette, 2003 -2005.Â
All were Democrats.
If Donald Jr. thinks after all those Democratic women serving in Congress from Georgia, the Republicans finally sending a woman from Georgia to Congress in the second decade of the 21st century deserves a pat on the back, well… What took them so long?
Next up, this false tweet:
Media headlines this week should be: Democrats go 0-4 in special elections… voters reject socialism.
— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) June 21, 2017
Actually, there have been five special elections. In California’s 34th Congressional District, the Democrat ran unchallenged, but it’s still 4-1. And not all Democrats are socialists. Painting Democrats with such a broad brush just reveals Jr.’s ignorance and enmity. Ossoff is far from a socialist.
Now, the next:
Amazed watching Dem pundits say going 0-4 this means they need to go further left. Hard to believe they can make a living being so wrong!
— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) June 21, 2017
To be fair, there’s little way to place a black/white fact check on this, but it again exposes Donald Trump Jr.’s ignorance of politics. In congressional races, the Georgia 6th is different from, say, the Massachusetts 8th, which includes Boston. But on the whole, the nation is becoming more progressive.
And finally, wow, what a softball!
This is just 100% false.
Easily proven.
Hey Media, instead of saying Democrats LOST say Republicans WON! Trump agenda is popular… #TellTheTruth #maga
— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) June 21, 2017
Polls show Americans are opposed to nearly every issue on Trump’s agenda. Period.
