Confirmed: Jeff Sessions to Testify Before Senate Intelligence Committee in Open Session Tuesday

Justice Dept. Previously Stated Would Be Closed Hearing

Attorney General Jeff Sessions will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, in an open hearing, at 2:30 PM EDT. A joint statement released by Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) and Ranking Member Mark Warner (D-VA) just released specifies the open hearing.

There was great concern that Sessions would try to hide his testimony to the Senate, as the Washington Post on Saturday reported a “Justice Department official said that committee hearing probably will be closed to the public.”

“In light of reports regarding Mr. Comey’s recent testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, it is important that I have an opportunity to address these matters in the appropriate forum,” Sessions’ statement from Saturday reads. “The Senate Intelligence Committee is the most appropriate forum for such matters, as it has been conducting an investigation and has access to relevant, classified information.”
