Cosby Faces Up to Ten Years on Each of Three Counts
A Pennsylvania jury has told the judge in the Bill Cosby sexual assault case brought by Andrea Constand they are deadlocked after deliberating for more than 30 hours. The judge ordered them back, telling them to try again.
The jury, seven men and five women, whose decision could ultimately put the comedian and actor behind bars for years, or the rest of his life, has been in deliberations since Monday. They have paused, “a half-dozen times to revisit key evidence, including Cosby’s decade-old admissions that he fondled Constand after giving her pills,” CBS News reports.
“Judge Steven O’Neill has seemed vexed at times as the court staff struggled to answer the jury’s requests. One batch of requested testimony hadn’t even been transcribed yet,” CBS News notes.
“But when jurors asked to stop for the day Wednesday night, O’Neill was effusive with praise — encouraging their diligence as they weigh charges that could put the 79-year-old Cosby in prison for the rest of his life.”
