‘Fox & Friends’ Claims Trump Demanding Loyalty From Comey ‘Is Just the Way People Work’ in NYC

‘In Washington, D.C. and New York City Things Are Done a Little Differently’ Fox News Falsely Claims

The Fox News Channel for years has tried to normalize Donald Trump’s behavior, and Thursday morning was no exception. 

“Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy told Americans they should understand that President Donald Trump’s inappropriate demand of loyalty to him from FBI Director Jim Comey is totally normal, ordinary, and “just the way people work” in New York City. 

“In Washington, D.C. and New York City things are done a little differently,” Doocy told viewers. “If you’re a CEO of a big company and you’re going to hire – you’ve got 25 different candidates – and you’re wondering, ‘OK, which of those people am I going to interview, and hire, ultimately you’re going to hire somebody for your team, who you can trust, and would be loyal,” he tried to explain.

Doocy referred to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s remarks from Wednesday, when he falsely claimed Trump’s remarks in the Comey written testimony were just a normal New York City conversation.

Literally not one word of what Doocy was saying is correct.

First, CEO’s of big companies don’t look at a field of 25 candidates. They have people who do that.

Second, loyalty is not a thing they demand. Or even ask for. Loyalty is earned. And Jim Comey, having started working for the Dept. of Justice in 1987, certainly had demonstrated loyalty. 

Third, Jim Comey already was hired. By President Obama. And the FBI Director has a tenure of 10 years. They are not supposed to have to beg to keep their jobs, something Trump clearly didn’t care to understand or honor.

FBI Directors are not supposed to be loyal to the President. They are supposed to be loyal to the U.S. Constitution and to the law.
