WATCH: Baldwin’s Trump Insists He Fired Comey Because of Russia in SNL’s ‘Lester Holt’ Interview

‘He’s Investigating Russia, I Don’t Like that – I Should Fire Him’

Alec Baldwin returned to “Saturday Night Live” last night, opening the show with Michael Che in a parody of this week’s Lester Holt interview with the president.

The skit began with “Trump” insisting that he needed to know if  he had Holt’s “undying loyalty,” a nod to the reports that Donald Trump was unsatisfied with now former FBI Director James Comey’s loyalty to the president. (“You don’t, sir.”)

The interview quickly turned to Comey’s firing and the White House’s various versions of who decided to fire the former FBI Director and when. “Your staff has been insisting all week that you didn’t fire him because of his Russian investigation,” Che said.

“No, I did,” Baldwin’s Trump asserted. “I fired him because of Russia – I thought, he’s investigating Russia, I don’t like that. I should fire him.”

Che’s Holt pointed out the admission is obstruction of justice before questioning producers in his earpiece, “Wait, so, did I get him? Is this all over? No? Nothing matters? Absolutely nothing matters anymore?”

The sketch featured comparisons to Nixon, a special “Anderson Cooper eye-roll” and even an appearance by ice cream delivery boy “Paul Ryan.” You can watch the full cold open below:
