‘I Have the Absolute Right’: Trump Tweets Why He Revealed Highly Classified Info With Russia
People Will Likely Be Killed as a Result of Trump’s Decision
President Donald Trump, facing what is undeniably the absolute worst crisis in his 116-day tenure, chose not to go on national television or even issue a statement – much less an apology – but tweeted to explain why he revealed “code word” highly classified information with Russian officials during last week’s closed meeting in the Oval Office.
“As President I wanted to share with Russia (at an openly scheduled W.H. meeting) which I have the absolute right to do,” Trump, defensive, tweeted, “facts pertaining to terrorism and airline flight safety. Humanitarian reasons, plus I want Russia to greatly step up their fight against ISIS & terrorism,” Trump said in two tweets.
His explanation does not hold water. Nor is it in any form an apology.
To be clear, intelligence experts say that people will likely be killed as a result of Trump’s decision, sources and foreign countries will be hesitant to share valuable information with the United States going forward, America’s ability to defeat ISIS has taken a hit, and the perception of America as the strongest nation in the world is diminished.
