Trump Responds to Special Prosecutor: ‘I Look Forward to This Matter Concluding Quickly’
‘There Was No Collusion’ President Insists
President Donald Trump has issued a terse statement in response to news the Department of Justice has appointed a special prosecutor to take over the FBI’s investigation of Russia’s interference in the election and any ties Trump or his team have to Russia.
“As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know – there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity,” the Trump statement reads. Collusion is only one of many issues the special prosecutor, known as the special counsel, Robert Mueller, will examine.
“I look forward to this matter concluding quickly. In the meantime, I will never stop fighting for the people and the issues that matter most to the future of our country.”
The President does not say the White House will fully co-operate, and make any other assertion of support.
But possibly for the first time, Trump’s statement does not focus on Trump, but on his campaign. Usually Trump would not reference his campaign or his people, and instead put the focus on himself.
