‘Immediate Emergency Hearings’
Top Democrats in the House and Senate are calling for James Comey to testify in open hearings immediately. President Donald Trump just fired the FBI Director in what many are calling a Nixonian move.Â
“Congress needs to have immediate emergency hearings to obtain testimony directly from Attorney General Sessions, the Deputy Attorney General, and FBI Director Comey.
“The President fired the one independent person who was doing the most to investigate President Trump and his campaign over allegations of coordination with Russia,” Rep. Elijah Cummings, the Ranking Member on the House Oversight Committee said in a statement. “It is mindboggling that the Attorney General – who claimed to have recused himself – was directly involved in the decision to fire Director Comey.”
Senator Patrick Leahy called the firing of Director Comey “Nixonian.”Â
Senator Ron Wyden also called for hearings:
“Director Comey should be immediately called to testify in an open hearing about the status of the investigation into Russia and Trump associates at the time of his firing.”
