‘The President and a Small Group of People Know Exactly What He Meant’
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer insists President Donald Trump’s seemingly misspelled and errant tweet made just after midnight Wednesday morning was not a mistake. Trump at 12:06 AM posted, “Despite the constant negative press covfefe,†leading likely millions of people for the past 15 hours to speculate what Trump actually meant.
“The President and a small group of people know exactly what he meant,” Spicer told reporters in an off-camera press gaggle that was aired as audio-only by some news networks.
The tweet was deleted six hours later, but some journalists and many others expressed concern that the President was tweeting while not coherent. Others noted that there appear to be no oversight of the President’s Twitter account, and hackers might be able to access it and post dangerous language that could have international consequences, including starting a war.
Spicer, decidedly restrained somber, refused to speak further on the matter, leading some to offer these remarks:
