Thousands, According to One Study, Will Die
House Republicans are about to vote on a bill to repeal and “replace” ObamaCare that the Trump administration is pushing. It is legislation that, if it becomes law, will result in the deaths of many Americans. That’s not hyperbole, that’s based on a study.
The vote, expected to be around 12 or 1 PM EDT, will come after just 40 minutes of debate, and without a CBO score.
Right now the bill will do the following:
- Kick at least 24 million people off their health care in the first year.
- Kick tens of millions more off health care by 2020.
- Place Americans with any pre-existing conditions (this could easily be you) in high-risk pools that will be grossly underfunded, costing them thousands of dollars more for the coverage they have right now, every year. For example:
- Removes the ObamaCare lifetime out-of-pocket cap. If you get your insurance through your employer, this allows your employer to eliminate the cap.
- Exempts members of Congress.
- Guts millions from Medicaid – which covers the people who can least afford health care. Via The New York Times:Â
“The new law would cut Medicaid by $880 billion, or 25 percent, over 10 years and impose a ‘per-capita cap’ on funding for certain groups of people, such as children and the elderly — a dramatic change that would convert Medicaid from an entitlement designed to cover any costs incurred to a more limited program.” - Strips funding for special education (also via the Times.)
- Give billions in tax cuts to the richest Americans.
