Clinton Says She Takes ‘Absolute Personal Responsibility’ for Campaign Mistakes

2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton just concluded her first public interview, and a lengthy one, with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour at Women for Women International. 

“I’m now back to being an activist citizen and part of the Resistance,” Clinton told Amanpour. 

She says she absolutely made mistakes, and take “absolute personal responsibility” for them.

“I was the candidate. I was the person who was on the ballot. I am very aware of the challenges, the problems, the shortfalls that we had.”

“I’m very proud of the campaign we ran,” she says, noting her pride in her staff and volunteers. But she acknowledged, “It wasn’t a perfect campaign.”

But Clinton also made clear, citing Nate Silver’s analysis, that FBI Director Jim Comey’s letter and Wikileaks are what caused people who were leaning toward voting for her to not.

“Ask yourselves this,” Clinton posited, “within an hour or two of the ‘Access Hollywood’ tapes were made public, the Russian theft of John Podesta’s emails hit WikiLeaks.”

“Did we make mistakes? Of course we did. Did I make mistakes? Oh my gosh, yes, you’ll read my confession And my request for absolution,” she said of a book she’s writing.

And she says that yes, misogyny “is real, it is very much a part of the landscape, politically, socially and economically,” and played a role in the election.
