Former South Carolina Police Officer Who Shot and Killed Walter Scott to Plead Guilty in Federal Case

Michael Slager Originally Had Claimed He Shot Walter Scott in Self Defense

In April of 2015 Walter Scott was shot in the back and killed by a South Carolina police officer. North Charleston police officer Michael Slager’s story was called into question after video of the killing emerged. Slager originally claimed he shot Scott, a 50-year old Black man, out of self-defense.

The video, taken by a private citizen who observed the killing, showed a different story.

Now, after a Justice Dept. lawsuit, Slager’s attorneys Tuesday morning say he will plead guilty in federal court today, The Washington Post reports. Slager “had faced both federal civil rights and state murder charges.”
