FBI: When Comey Testified Abedin Regularly Forwarded ‘Thousands’ of Emails to Weiner He Meant ‘Two’

‘Ultimately Determined That Two Email Chains Containing Classified Information Were Manually Forwarded to Mr. Weiner’s Account’

It’s been six days since FBI Director Jim Comey appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee, but now that two major reports have made clear his sworn testimony was outrageously false, the Bureau is attempting to correct the record.

Director Comey had falsely stated that Hillary Clinton top advisor “Huma Abedin appears to have had a regular practice of forwarding emails” to her then-spouse Anthony Weiner “for him to print out for her so she could deliver them to the secretary of state.”  He also claimed she had “forwarded hundreds and thousands of e-mails, some of which contain classified information.”

Pro-Publica late Monday night reported that this is false. Later, the Associated Press also reported on the false testimony.

Minutes ago the Senate Judiciary Committee released a letter sent today from the FBI to Senator Chuck Grassley, the Chairman of the Committee, which states it is “intended to supplement” Comey’s testimony.

“Director Comey spoke of hundreds and thousands of emails being forwarded from Ms. Abedin to Mr. Weiner’s laptop,” the letter says, noting “the FBI believes it is reasonable to conclude that most of the emails found on Mr. Weiner’s laptop…occurred as a result of a backup of personal electronic devices.”

“Investigators,” the letter continues, “ultimately determined that two email chains containing classified information were manually forwarded to Mr. Weiner’s account.”

Two.

Not “hundreds and thousands.”

The letter adds that another ten email chains “containing classified information” were also found on the laptop, “as a result of backup activity,” and that all these emails “previously had been reviewed by investigators.”

The letter was not signed by Comey and it did not contain any apology.

Here’s a copy of the letter:
