UPDATING: Trump Fires FBI Director Comey

‘Terminated and Removed From Office’

President Donald Trump has just fired FBI Director Jim Comey.

A White House statement says the decision came in conjunction with “clear recommendations from both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.”

This letter appears to indicate the termination is a reflection of Comey’s refusal to not protect Trump:

CNN’s Dan Merica makes this very good point, and on air CNN’s Gloria Borger just asked if this is a “coup.” 

CNN’S Jeffrey Toobin just called it a “grotesque abuse of power,” and compared it to Nixon’s firing of Archibald Cox.
