‘You Can Use That on the Press’: Head of Homeland Security Tells Trump How He Could Use Ceremonial Saber (Video)

‘Yeah, That’s Right’

The Secretary of Homeland Security was caught on a hot mic telling President Donald Trump he could use a ceremonial saber “on the press.” General John Kelly’s remarks were caught by news cameras at a Coast Guard graduation ceremony Wednesday afternoon, during which the President delivered the commencement address.

The graduating class had presented their Commander-in-Chief with the saber as a “token of our appreciation,” CNN reported.

Upon receiving the saber, Trump handed it off and sat down next to General Kelly, who turned and said to him, jokingly, “You can use that on the press, sir.”

Trump chuckled and responded, “Yeah, that’s right.”

The job of the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security is literally to ensure the protection and safety of all its people.

It’s yet another example of Trump’s war on the media.

One of the under-reported aspects of former FBI Director Jim Comey’s memo noting that Trump had asked him in February to drop the investigation of Mike Flynn was another request of Comey the President made.

“Alone in the Oval Office,” The New York Times reported, “Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.”

Trump has a long and ugly history of attacking the press, calling the media “Fake News,” and even calling out reporters by name at rallies. NBC News’ Katy Tur was a favorite target of then-candidate Trump. She required protection from the Secret Service on at least one occasion after he had incited his crowd of supporters against her at a campaign rally.

Also during today’s Coast Guard graduation ceremony, President Trump gave the commencement address, complaining to cadets that no politician in history has been treated as unfairly as he has.
