‘You Are Lying. You Are a Liar.’: Paul Ryan Eviscerated for False TrumpCare Pre-Existing Conditions Claim

MacArthur Amendment Doesn’t Properly Protect People With Pre-Existing Conditions as Ryan Claims

Speaker Paul Ryan is so desperate to keep the Republican Party’s seven-year promise to repeal and replace ObamaCare he has resorted to lying about TrumpCare, the bill that he claims will fulfill that covenant.

For the record, TrumpCare, and any current or pat version of it, is neither repeal of ObamaCare (good) nor replacement of ObamaCare (bad). It is a hastily-constructed bill that will kick tens of millions of people off their health care coverage while delivering a massive gift to insurance companies. It also will harm people with pre-existing conditions – which Speaker Ryan just vigorously claims is not true. He cites the MacArthur Amendment as the way people are protected.

Ryan’s tweet links to his own website. He is “verifying” his own party’s bill, like that’s a thing.

But here are actual reports that “verify” Ryan is lying, that his claim is false.

POLITIFACT: Rates Trump’s claim the bill covers people with pre-existing conditions “mostly false.”

AARP: “MacArthur Amendment to AHCA Would Mean Higher Premiums for Age and Preexisting Conditions”

BROOKINGS INSTITUTION (Non-partisan): “New amendment to GOP health bill effectively allows full elimination of community rating, exposing sick to higher premiums”

On Twitter, many declared Ryan’s claim false, some calling it a lie, and even calling him a liar, as Indivible’s executive director did here:
