‘Trump Paper’ Proceeds Will Benefit Migrants and U.S. Deportees

“Mexicans Are Not ‘Bad Hombres,’” Creator Antonio Battaglia Said

Mexican lawyer Antonio Battaglia has created the Donald Trump-themed “Trump Paper,” which will benefit migrants and U.S. deportees now residing in his hometown of Guanajuato, Mexico.

According to Expansión, CNN’s Mexican partner, Battaglia was angry about Donald Trump’s negative, often hateful and well-documented campaign rhetoric on Mexicans. Instead of giving into negativity, however, he turned toward creativity—seeking to “make it clear that Mexicans are not ‘bad hombres.’”

“I started looking for a way to do something that had an impact, not in tone of mockery or bad revenge,” the translated interview reads, “but in a positive way.” A planned 30% of proceeds from the product will benefit those impacted by Trump’s policies.

Battaglia said that he initially tried to register for a trademark in clothing or footwear, as his family has a history of shoe production, but the “Trump” brand had already been registered for the items.

“Then came the idea of producing a toilet paper,” the lawyer said, “a product that was ironic and that remained in the market for a good time.” Battaglia obtained registration for the trademark from Mexico’s Institute of the Industrial Property (IMPI) in August of 2015.

People Chica further reported that the sanitary product will begin production at the end of this year, and distribution is planned throughout various Mexican groceries and supply chain groups.

“If you generate business for me it’s secondary,” Antonio Battaglia said. “What I want to leave is useful to support migrants and deportees.”
