Yet Another Blow to Trump’s Agenda
The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals has largely upheld a lower court’s ruling that blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order banning immigrants from six largely Muslim nations. Today’s ruling as 10-3. This is yet another is a series of defeats for the embattled executive, who has been astonishingly unsuccessful at both the judicial and legislative branches in seeing his extremist agenda ratified.
NBC News’ Pete Williams explained today’s ruling:
Williams notes that at the very least, the Trump administration will not be able to enforce its desired ban “for many months,” and that if and when it reaches the Supreme Court, it likely will not be heard until the fall.Â
Chances are strong the administration will appeal to the Supreme Court.
Buzzfeed legal editor Chris Geidner on Twitter highlights a portion of today’s ruling, pointing out that the judge called Trump’s order “steeped in animus and directed at a single religious group.”Â
That’s a severe blow to the Trump administration.
It’s important to note that earlier this year, President Trump lashed out at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, suggesting he was unable to protect Americans without the executive order being allowed to be enforced.
There is of course absolutely zero basis for that claim.
