5 Things for Thursday – ObamaCare Repeal Edition

Here’s What You Need to Know to Start Your Day

Good Morning!

Today is going to be a little crazy. OK, a lot crazy.

Here are 5 things you need to know:

  • Republicans are rolling the dice and will vote on the earth-shattering, mind-numbingly insane bill they have cobbled together to repeal and “replace” ObamaCare, supposedly just after noon. Wednesday night they claimed to have enough votes to pass it. In reality, it appears they are a few votes shy, but are twisting arms and threatening Congressmen to vote for it or else. The bill has not been scored by the CBO, and they have not read it because they have not released it yet. It will kick tens of millions of people off health care, put anyone with a pre-existing condition (which could mean almost anyone) in high risk pools where their costs could skyrocket. It includes $880 billion in Medicaid cuts over 10 years. It also removes the lifetime cap from all insurance programs, even those you get from your employer. People are going to die if this becomes law. You can call your Congressman and demand they vote no: (202) 224- 3121.
  • At about 11 AM President Trump will sign an executive order to weaken the Johnson Amendment, the law that prohibits churches and other religious non-profits from supporting or opposing political candidates. It likely will be challenged in court. It should be – it would turn megachurches into Super PACs.
  • After hanging out with top religious extremists in the morning for the National Day of Prayer Trump heads to New York to meet with the Australian Prime Minister. Introducing them will be 21t Century Fox, News Corp., and Fox News head honcho Rupert Murdoch.
  • Supreme Court swing vote Justice Anthony Kennedy is rumored to be considering retiring. It would give Trump another SCOTUS justice pick.
  • May the Fourth Be With You.
